The Alfa Romeo GT 1750 Veloce entered the market at the end of 1967 as an evolution of the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce. The bodywork retained the proportions designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone, while introducing a cleaner front end, without the characteristic “step nose” and immediately recognisable by its new grille with four round headlights.
The interior was more refined than that of the previous versions, with a redesigned dashboard, contoured seats and more comprehensive instrumentation.
As for the engine, it is the classic twin-cam inline four-cylinder, fed by two twin-choke carburettors.
Power output is 118 hp at 5,500 rpm, delivered to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The mechanical layout was simple in concept, yet highly refined for its time.
Its Italian provenance and original black number plates from first registration are two aspects that have a significant influence on the car’s historical value. This example also has a clear history and particularly stable ownership: just three owners since first registration, with the most recent custodian keeping it for approximately twenty years.
Rebuilt engine and recently completed mechanical work
The engine was rebuilt by a well-known historic car specialist and preparer.
The car has also recently undergone an in-depth mechanical overhaul.
The work included:
• gearbox overhaul;
• replacement of the synchronisers;
• steering box overhaul;
• complete service;
• carburettor overhaul.
The gearbox overhaul and replacement of the synchronisers make the gear changes more precise and consistent. The carburettor overhaul ensures correct engine fuelling and a cleaner response from the throttle.
All the work was carried out with the aim of allowing the car to be driven and enjoyed immediately.
First series, matching numbers, original colour and rust-free bodywork
The fact that this specific example we are offering belongs to the 1968 first series is certainly the strongest confirmation of its rarity; however, its value is supported by much more. This 1750 GT Veloce retains its matching-numbers engine and original colour, two essential qualities for anyone searching for a genuine collector’s car.
The interior is immaculate and perfectly preserved, retaining the authentic appearance of a late-1960s Alfa Romeo cabin despite its delicate materials. Its condition confirms the care and attention shown by the car’s previous owners.
The bodywork is perfectly preserved, completely free from rust and shows no evidence of accidents, something that is far from common on a model with almost sixty years of history.
Finding a 1750 that remains this consistent, sound and correct requires time and a very careful selection process, which we have already carried out.
The car is also supplied with its original registration document, invoices for the completed work and all the necessary documentation, fully up to date, together with two sets of GTA-style wheels. These allow the car’s appearance to be changed while maintaining a consistent reference to the model’s sporting history.
The invoices provide proof of the work carried out and complete the car’s history, helping to remove the uncertainties that often accompany the purchase of a classic car.
Historic cars can be restored, but their original history cannot be recreated. This 1750 GT Veloce has preserved its history thanks to the choices made by its caring owners.
