Advantages of a Historic Car: Benefits on Road Tax and Insurance

The Advantages of a Historic car are many, but they allow us to save something (even quite large figures) with regards to insurance and road tax (even if for the road tax, national and regional regulations are not very clear) let’s see together which ones are the advantages of having a vintage car, as well as the pleasure of driving in the past.

Advantages on insurance

As we know, all vehicles that normally circulate on the street must necessarily have insurance. Vintage cars, which theoretically are not suitable for circulation, must take out a special temporary insurance covering the period and the route of the event in progress.

  • The insurance premium on vintage cars is usually lower than the norm.
  • For this type of vehicle there is no merit class based on the bonus / malus system.
  • Free driving is granted at no additional cost and includes all drivers aged 23 and over.

For Historic cars, however, the situation is different because they are normally used for circulation, and, for the latter, there are important advantages on insurance that are much less expensive with important discounts.

Insurance rates for historic cars are on average from 100 to 150 euros per year. The companies that have these discounted rates normally ask for the certificate issued by ASI which verifies the authenticity of the historic car. If you do not have this certificate, it will be mandatory to take out a normal, much more expensive Motor TPL policy, or you can find out how to subscribe your car to ASI.

In addition to the advantages, however, there are also small limitations, actually only one. The policyholder of the insurance must not be under the age of 23.

Advantages of a Historic Car: The Auto Stamp

Also on the Auto Tax, in addition to the news of the car tax for cars aged 20 to 29, there are advantages for owners of vintage or historic cars. If you want to move with the car and only in that case, there is the obligation to pay the stamp duty, which however usually amounts to about ten euros.

If, on the other hand, the car remains in the garage and kept for collection, it is possible to be exempt from paying the car tax.
