The registration in the ASI registers is also valid for those which are valid for driving on the road. These cars, once inserted into the registers, can be retracted. In order for this to happen, the owner of the vehicle is radiated by the PRA must produce a declaration certifying its state of preservation. This declaration replaces a known document.

Classic cars, the years are not all

Not for all the vintage cars the years are sufficient to define its privileged condition: the new Stability Law, in fact, has provided for a list of 340 models , which can be considered vintage; only these can enjoy the benefits and facilities provided by law. The years of a car are not, therefore, the only elements to attest to its status: the car must have been kept in a decent state and above all in conditions faithful to the original; otherwise it will not be able to pass the registration to the Registers.

When the car becomes vintage: the benefits obtained

The tangible benefits that can be obtained by the insertion of a car inside the ASI Registers is the need to pay a reduced sum, both for the tax of possession and for the insurance; with regard to the stamp, it must be paid only if you decide to move with the car, but not if you keep it in the garage. The amount to be paid is still reduced to a few tens of euros. For insurance, however, the subject changes. The multiplicity of insurance companies on the market, in fact, allows you to find the offer that best suits your needs. In principle, each insurance company provides tariffs dedicated to classic cars: costs are significantly lower, and many of them provide for exemptions. In any case it will be better to evaluate all the proposals available to ensure a classic car.

The limit for exemption from the payment of the vintage car tax has therefore been raised from 20 to 30 years. The stamp for historic cars is therefore mandatory for cars that have not yet turned thirty. This news is due to the new 2015 Stability Law. Since not all Italian regions have adapted to the new provisions, it is always advisable to check the site of the ACI in your region to verify the modalities for the regulation of the vintage car tax between 20 and 29 years. Some regions have decided to adopt particular measures, such as the Lombardy region which decided that for cars and motorbikes with more than 20 years if only intended for use and transportation of people, they are subject to the payment of the regional road traffic taxes to a fixed extent equal to 30.00 euros for cars.

Antique cars: after how many years under review

The review must be performed on vintage cars every two years . In this case, the law is similar to that for all cars that have completed at least the fourth year of age. If the norm for the revision is identical, between ordinary cars and vintage cars, it is not the one related to circulation. In fact, in a vintage car it is not necessary to wear seat belts, if it does not have the attachments, or to circulate with the lights on, outside the built-up areas. Lastly, vintage cars are by their nature Euro 0 cars: for this reason they are subject to limitation restrictions just like all the other cars of the same category.

My husband and I want to buy a vintage car and wanted some details on maintenance. I didn’t know you need to have a classic car review every 2 years. That’s good to know, so we don’t miss a checkup and get penalized; I’ll keep that in mind as we browse for classic cars we like!
